Lolita 52 Challenge: Week 21

I have a follower!  I'm super thrilled that my blog has hit off and hopefully helped a few people.  I know lurking is sometimes easier than anything, but I would love to hear from everyone.  So, please don't be shy and feel free to comment once in a while.

I'm really excited to start talking about this weeks Lolita 52 Challenge theme, "Plan for a trip!  A week's worth of Lolita outfits I can fit in a small suitcase"!  If there is anything I love more than Lolita and kittens, it's travel!  I love and live for vacations.  Any time I can go somewhere for a little fun and relaxation, I'm one happy lady.

So, if I was going to be packing up for a week long vacation in Lolita, I'm sure I could do it with ease.  I've been on planes so many times where all I brought was my carry-on for 5 day to week and a half long trips.  I'm an awesome tight packer and can get my clothes, stuffed animal, laptop, camera and non-liquid necessities nicely packed into my mini Hong Kong suitcase or a backpack or even a messenger bag!

First of all, I would pick the two most practice pairs of shoes I own to bring and change them out every day.  Wear one pair and the other pair will get packed last on top of most everything else.  For pairs of a combo of leggings, tights and socks will be square pocket folded for the most space efficiency.  Wearing all but the socks for a second day is just fine.  Socks usually tend to collect the most skin and bacteria, so I only wear them for one day before washing them.  Next, all I will need are two nice petticoats and one pair of bloomers, folded properly and rolled slightly, they take up almost no space.  Six pairs of nice, not too thick, undies are next.  If rolled up, at this point you shouldn't have used more than 1/2 of a layer of space (minus the shoes, which should be packed later).  Next, you need to make sure and pack two nice bras that can be folded into the other cup to take up the least space.  Wearing the same bra all week is not a good idea, but you can wear one twice or even three times if you wear it on days you don't sweat.  Now that your basics are all packed, it's time to nicely fold and gently roll the four skirts you want to take.  Make sure they are all in the same color set so they can be changed out with different blouses.  All of the first layer and a little of the second layer taken up at this point, you're going to want to only take about four blouses.  Two would make 8 different outfits, but for hygienes sake and a little more originality, four will do.  Fold and roll and then add the other pair of shoes and voila!  If you have a pouch/zipper on the outside like my mini suitcase does, this is where I put the hair accessories, cuffs/gloves and jewelry I want.  I usually take about twenty tiny things to mix and match, two headpieces and if you like, a little pouch of matching makeup.  A hair straightener and the other items you need will fit in here just fine.  So there you have it, one week of packing done and no big issue!  You'll be one of the cutest people on vacation.

Now, if you are going to a theme destination, like Disney Land, I always make sure to leave space.  Pack one less blouse, no socks and less accessories.  If you can get away with it, pack one less pair of undies and make sure your clothes are thinner so they take up less room.  Do not pack any bathroom items beside a straightener.  Places like that have things for you for free on site, so no need to pack them.  Now you'll have space for a favorite Disney item or a few tiny things.  You can buy a cute shirt at one of the Disney Stores as well as accessories.  Who doesn't want some Minnie ears and a special shirt for vacation!?

Lolita 52 Challenge: Week 20

Hello again ladies (and maybe gentlemen?)!  I'm so happy that so many people are reading this and hopefully finding some help from my earlier posts.  Please feel free to comment or message me if you have any questions at all.

This weeks Lolita 52 Challenge is going to be "How satisfied I am with my current wardrobe".  This topic is a little tricky seeing as I'm always grateful for what I have.  I would however like it if my wardrobe was larger or had a few more brand items.  My weight has gone up just a smidge lately, so one or two items are a little tight at the moment.  I'm hopin this changes soon though and I'm sure my mood will change.  I do plan on adding more casual pieces as soon as I can so that I can change out my coordinates more often.  I don't need enough items to wear a different outfit for 365 days, but I would like a months worth of original outfits.

Lolita 52 Challenge: Week 19

Another odd topic this week for Lolita 52 Challenge.  This week is going to be "Trends that I thought I loved, but now I'm not to keen on".  Again, trends aren't my thing to start with.  They don't really phase me, but if I had to pick something, it would be the mix of Hime x Lolita.  I thought it was really pretty, fantasy like and wonderful to start with, but now I can't really see a reason to wear it.  It's a little over the top fashion wise and I'm more for simplicity.  That being said, I think anyone should like whatever trends they are drawn to and not apologize for it.

Lolita 52 Challenge: Week 18

Alright, I hate to disappoint seeing as this page has hit off much more so than I thought (average 80 visitors a day!  Wow!) but this weeks topic for Lolita 52 Challenge has me a bit stumped again.  The topic is "Trends I thought I would never get into, but now I love".  As I've noted before, I'm not much of a trend follower.  I like to keep things basic and so, I've never found any trends to be something I don't like.  I also don't really do any current trends.

Lolita 52 Challenge: Week 17

Sadly, my post for this weeks Lolita 52 Challenge is going to be cut short.  The topic is "My first meetup" and the thing is, I'm anti-social or maybe an introvert.  Either way, I do not socialize with others besides online and pen pals.  I'm a very unique person and I don't handle social situations and on the spot topics very well.  If anything, I like to avoid them at all costs.  Especially political matters, those usually don't go well.  I am a member of the Arizona Lolitas, but at most I post topics on their page and am Facebook pals with a few.  One of my best Facebook pals keeps trying to coax me out of my shell, but I freak out last second.  I'm hoping to get over this fear someday.

Lolita 52 Challenge: Week 16

This weeks Lolita 52 Challenge is "10 Facts about my Lolita wardrobe".  I'm not sure if I can think of ten total, but I'll make sure to try.

1. My wardrobe is mainly composed of non-brand items.  I own an AP sax purse that was from a lucky pack last year and that is it.  No AP, BtSSB or any other of the brands I adore.  Sure, I'd love some more, if it were practical, which brings me to...

2. My wardrobe is budget.  I like to think of myself as one of the most frugal ladies on the planet.  If there is a deal, I'll nab it.  A sale, I'll be there.  And above all, I never buy new clothes unless I absolutely have at least 10% extra income that month.  That means bills, groceries, memberships and everything else has to be paid off that month and if 10% is left, I'll get myself something.

3. Nothing is from Bodyline or similar.  While I do own budget pieces, almost everything I find is from thrift shops, second hand, girly clothing stores and handmade pieces.  I have gotten really good at spotting a piece that could work with a coordinate at places like Forever 21 or the perfect headpiece at Claire's.

4. I love casual.  The majority of my wardrobe is casual pieces.  It's the most practice, the easiest to find in non-brand stores, and people tend to look at you less in public.  I'm sure all ladies love attention, but having weirdos take pictures of you for no reason, and without even asking, is not something I'm into.

5. I love sax (light blue) and neutral colors.  As I get older, I love the idea of simplicity and elegance more.  Yes, I own pink and lilac, but most of my favorite items are blue and tan/light brown.  It just looks so nice when everything is put together.

6. My wardrobe is still in progress.  I'm still buying things, finding things I think work better than other things I already own and change pieces out once in a while.  Though, who doesn't do this?  Not to mention, I change out pieces I wear when my weight changes.  Another big reason I tend to stay away from brand items.

7. Almost every item I own is interchangeable.  This means that I can make a coordinate out of almost any combo in my wardrobe.  This is extremely helpful for wearing Lolita every day and living on a budget.  If you keep mostly pieces of like colors, you'll have less trouble getting dressed in the morning.

8. I own one wig.  Yup, you read that right.  I own just one single wig and that's all I need.  I actually don't wear it that often do to my natural hair being well taken care of and looking just as pretty.  You don't need a wig to dress in Lolita and don't let anyone tell you any different.  It's also very close to my natural hair color, so I usually just wear it when I'm having a bad hair day and almost no one has every questioned it.  I use to have a blonde one, but I never really fell in love with it.

9. Even my underwear is cute.  Yes, I know that almost no one sees this, but it makes me feel put together when I have a nice comfy bra on and panties with a print.  Nothing sexy, just adorable or elegant.

10. My wardrobe is not better than your wardrobe and vice versa.  I will not judge your pieces unless asked, and even so, I'm not mean.  I'm not the fashion police, I just love to help others.  I make sure all my pieces fit with Lolita code, but I'm not going to chew you out if yours needs a little push in the right direction.

Lolita 52 Challenge: Week 15

So, there aren't many things I want to talk about today that are on topic, but I'll try to come up with something.  This entire Lolita challenge is really hard since so many of them have to do with the community, which I'm not really part of.  Just like I'm a solitary witch, I guess you could call me a solitary Lolita.  Either way, the topic for this week is "3 things I wish I was told when I was a new Lolita".

First of all, I would have adored it if I had known anyone in the fashion and someone could have told me "Hey!  You're coordinate is a little off!" so that I would have even known I was wearing Lolita to start with.  I've always been attracted to girly fashion options and what I would wear sometimes in middle school was just a piece or two short of a full coordinate.  Sure that didn't make it much less Lolita, but I felt silly after finding out what was a guideline and what to avoid.

I also wish someone would have told me that there were more people into Lolita than I would have thought.  Absolutely no one in my area dressed in Lolita, knew about the fashion or really cared about anything Japanese Culture.  The anime group at our school (the only high school for 30 miles) was made up of only thirty people and a few of them were just there to get out of other activities.  I would have been much happier to start with if I knew I wasn't a freak.

And lastly, I would have liked it if when I first started I knew that other people in general didn't have a lot of money and that brand whores were rarer than made present by internet chatter.  Even if I had managed to be more of a people person and chatty, I was rather scared off by the idea that I was the only poor Lolita in the world.  My parents were rich, but that didn't mean they were willing to drop even a penny on something they thought was a stupid fashion.  Having only an allowance wasn't enough to help me feel confident as a new Lolita.
